With increasing frequency, we are seeing anti-dog legislation enacted in many parts of the USA as well as other countries. It is up to dog fanciers of all breeds to stop this movement. Together we can show lawmakers and citizens alike that there are better ways to end the problems associated with the irresponsible ownership of any dog. If we all work together, we can make a difference.

Watch proposed legislation in your area for possible problem ordinances. If you find something, spread the word.
Of course, one of the best ways for us all to fight anti-dog legislation is to make sure our own dogs are good citizens through socialization, training, proper care, adequate confinement/restraint at home and in public, and a lot of love. Nothing fights anti-dog legislation like a very well trained, very social dog. Pictured on this page are many such lucky dogs that have wonderful homes that give them what they need. These dogs not only are a joy to have around, but in many cases they also provide needed public services.
If possible, attend the meetings in your area where authorities are considering imposing bad legislation. Respectfully tell them why the proposed legislation does not work and help them figure out a way to solve their dog related problem. Be a part of their solution.
Examples of Overturned BSL or Areas that Decided Against Anti-Dog Legislation
The State of Oregon considered BSL, but decided instead to make their laws punish the irresponsible owner of ANY breed. Senate Bill 844.
Tacoma, Washington considered enacting a mandatory spay/neuter ordinance for all dogs and cats. Instead they are worked with some very dedicated members of the dog fancy to write an ordinance that does NOT punish responsible owners and will help resolve the problem of dog overpopulation and irresponsible ownership in their area.
Federal Way Washington considered Breed Specific Legislation as a result of dangerous dog issues they were experiencing. Many from the dog fancy wrote to and called the committe members, and attended the committee meeting where this was to be discussed. The committee decided the best way to handle the dangerous dog issue was to modify the existing ordinance to increase fines and penalties, and enforce current laws.

Educate fellow dog fanciers...explain to them how bad legislation hurts us all in that once presidence has been set with one or two breeds, it will be that much easier for additional breeds to be added to the list of those that are banned or restricted. In Auburn, Washington, one of the breeds selected to be considered dangerous was the Kuvasz...who ever heard of a Kuvasz doing anything? It can happen to anybody... Please also remember that breed bans play right into the hands of radical groups...whose agenda is to make it illegal to own any dog.

Carley Double Take's Full Throttle, RA, CGC Rottweiler Carley is pictured with her young handler, Stephanie. Stephanie and Carley are quite a team! They have come in second place overall for their 4-H efforts in the county they live in. And, they are active in the American Kennel Club Junior Achievement Challenge, where they earn points for every title achieved. What an excellent example they give of a properly trained and socialized Rottweiler achieving great things and being a positive influence on the community.
